Private Sessions

One on One

During this 60 minute, one-on-one session, we are able to discuss what the individual's “Goal/Intention” is and how we can integrate this to be automatic within the brain/body system. When this happens, we are better able to complete tasks with ease rather than being in a stressed state that blocks our true potential. This is a process where the individual chooses from a variety of movements, games and/or exercises.

We usually conclude with “Relaxation/Integration” time. This allows our brains to naturally rewire so our goal will become intrinsic rather than over-focusing extrinsically.

Classroom Design

A Balanced & Focused Space

Routines are a crucial element of a successful classroom. When teachers, students and staff are involved in the process of learning how and why various mindful movements are effective, it easily becomes part of the daily schedule. You will notice the energy of the classroom becomes calmer and in-sync. Individual students are in a more integrated state which allows them to be relaxed, ready to learn and participate in a safe environment.

They personally experience and understand more about their brain and body which gives them the knowledge and empowerment to become more grounded. These techniques and movements are easily implemented to become more balanced and focused.

Our Success Stories.

N. Belsito, Grade 1 Teacher (Bellingham, MA)

Joan visited three times with my 1st  grade class this school year to teach us (Students, Teacher, Paraprofessional) how to incorporate Brain Gym into our daily schedule. We immediately noticed how much the students were focused in class and how their academics slowly shifted while becoming more successful. We now use Brain Gym in our class on a daily basis to settle into the day and after transitions, ie, lunch, recess, specials. We also have  “Brain Gym Leaders” each day to facilitate PACE. These exercises have helped students to focus and make transition times easier.

Heidi M, K-3 Art Teacher (Bellingham, MA)

Joan has only worked with one of my first grade art students two times and I immediately noticed a difference in him. “Joan, I don't know much about this Brain Gym thing, but he was the best I have ever seen him!”

I loved how Joan incorporated Brain Gym activities into her classes and how she talked about and demonstrated improvements, ie pre-and post- tests.

Big eye-opener. A lot of this is in-line with EFT (Tapping) and chakra work. Love it! All teachers could benefit!

K. Garvin, Parent (Hopedale, MA)

My daughter was struggling in school.  The school evaluated her several times but could not deduce what was wrong, only that something was.  We suspect that she has problems concentrating and gets easily overwhelmed, shutting down when she feels frustrated.  I have known Joan for a decade, and have always admired her positive energy, work ethic and devotion.  When a mutual friend gave glowing reports of her daughter's progress in school after Joan's tutelage, I approached Joan to find out if Brain Gym could help us.  Joan is extremely passionate about her work and the progress of her students. Her enthusiasm is contagious; my daughter looks forward to her after-school Brain Gym sessions because they seem like play, not work. The goal is to teach tools for overcoming blocks to learning such as boredom, frustration, distractions, confusion, nervousness, feeling stuck, and the desire to quit. The strategy is to offer a menu of simple ways to bring focus back to the present task, and means to move forward past these blocks.  Success comes from practicing while playing and laughing, in an environment of fun, to ingrain these options so that they are second nature.  After a number of sessions with Joan, my daughter's school papers started coming home with better grades. She also started noticing and commenting on things in her environment more so than before. I asked her about how she felt before a certain test that she had done well on, and whether it was different than the panic she usually felt.  Her response was that she used a new strategy, and was able to calm herself enough to focus on the content of the test instead of the pressure of the test. This new confidence gives us both hope.
