This is a journal entry written by a first grade student with an open-ended topic. She chose to write about the positive effects of Brain Gym.
Joan visited with the class and demonstrated how to utilize Brain Gym as part of the daily routine. This is the second year this teacher has used Brain Gym and has noticed students are calmer, focused and ready to learn.
1) Pre-Activity
At the start of the school year, when asked what mindful movements are, this first grader was not aware of the techniques.
I visited with the class to introduce how to do to these simple yet effective movements.
2) Mindful Movements
These tools have become part of the daily classroom routine.
3) Post-Activity
After 2 months, the student was asked to write a journal entry. The topic was up to the individual student. She chose to write about how Brain Gym helps her be ready to learn!
This is the second year the teacher of this class has made mindful movements part of the daily routine. She notices how students and teachers are calmer, focused and ready to learn.
